RSS was originally envisioned as a means of syndicating content for use on sites across the Web (and it can still be used that way), but it's more commonly used by individuals who want to stay informed about the content on various sites. By subscribing each of the sites you want to follow in a feed reader, you can create one location that you check for look for updates from a variety of sources. For example, I use Google Reader to read over 100 information sources on a daily basis. It saves me a tremendous amount of time over loading each page manually.
